Your reading for the April 1st Book Club

Ladies, ladies, ladies...I apologize for my delay in updating this blog. I missed getting Cherryh's book club pick on here. Sorry.

Book club last night was really great. We discussed the book for a while and ate a Vietnamese dessert that Cherryh made that was DELICIOUS!!!! Then we talked a bunch about nothing related to the book. You know how we do! :)

I did want to announce to you the April book club pick. It's "Empire Falls" by Richard Russo. I do have copies of the book for you guys if you can't find it. I checked out a "Book Club To Go" bag from the JoCo Libary with 10 copies of the book in it, so if you need it, let me know.

I also wanted to let you know that I'll have a whole spread of diner inspired food at my house on the 1st, so bring your appetite. I'm also looking into getting a copy of the mini-series of "Empire Falls" (I didn't know it existed until last night at book club) and I'm thinking maybe that Saturday or Sunday after book club I can have people out to watch it if they like.

So, mark your calendars for book club: APRIL 1ST 6:30PM. JAMIE'S HOUSE (let me know if you need directions)

HAPPY READING!!!!!

Even More Curtis Sittenfeld (FROM KATY)

FROM KATY FOR THE LADIES....

Maybe you're almost done with your next book club assignment, or maybe you haven't started. Wherever you are, I've got some bonus reading material for you.
Curtis Sittenfeld is writing a five-part inauguration-themed novella for Slate—thanks to my new favorite blog for the heads-up. The original content starts today and ends on Inauguration Day (January 20). Apparently she sold a bit of her soul last year to do the same thing for a luxury car company, so consider her redeemed if you're a fanatic of puritanical prose that exists solely for the evolution and betterment of the human psyche.

BONUS: You can also enjoy a podcast of Sittenfeld reading 'Yes We Did,' if you're one of those audio learners. Enjoy!

For the love of literature,
Katy

Welcome to The READ THAT Society!

Hello ladies! What a great time we had last night! Yay for book clubs!!!!

It was a great way to kick off the new club! The general consensus in the group was that it was a good book and really made you look at things in a whole new light. Katy sent a link out today to the Freakonomics Blog so check that out if you can!

Special thanks to the fabulous Miz Tricia for hosting the kick-off gathering for our new book club! And of course, special shout outs to the witty and fantabulous Miz Monica for the name suggestion...we are now The READ THAT Society *snap* (that was a snap of my fingers, in case you didn't get it!)

And Katy really "Oprahed it up" last night and announced the book for the February gathering of The READ THAT Society. Announcing...

American Bride
By: Curtis Sittenfeld

It's a long one so get your copy soon. Katy suggested to everyone last night that if you are going to purchase books don't forget about the Borders Rewards program at Borders. I have this, and it really is a great deal. I saved 40% off a brand new book at Christmas for my Dad. What a bargain! Click HERE for more information! And don't forget Half-Priced Books...it's a JamJo (Jamie & JoAnna) favorite!

Mark your calendars for the February 4th at 6:30pm for the February gathering of The READ THAT Society. Katy will be the host next month. If you don't know where she lives, let me know and I'll send you directions (I watch To Catch A Predator...I'm not posting addresses on here!)

YAY FOR BOOK CLUBS!!!!!!!!!!!! See you girls soon!
